In 2006, Philippe Kessler realised his dream of acquiring a wine estate in Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
This project took shape among12 hectares of vines in this historic vineyard.
This was the birth of the Clef de Saint Thomas estate.
Philippe and his wife Sophie, with their experience in wine and olive growing at Château Calissanne in Provence, embarked on a new adventure in the Rhône Valley.
In the land of the Popes, the saints are the stars in the firmament, while the key stands for the opening of hearts and cellars.
St. Thomas is one of the most famous apostles, the one who “believed only in what he could see with his own eyes”. But here he is above all the namesake of the Kessler’s son Thomas.
Today, Sophie runs the estate as the winery owner and producer (Propriétaire-Récoltant). Thomas is a student, passionate and very committed to furthering the two domaines.
The quality of the wines (which have won many awards at the biggest wine competitions in France and internationally) quickly made the Clef de Saint Thomas estate one of the jewels of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation.
Sophie and her team offer a new generation of red and white Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The wines impress with their wonderful elegance and depth.
Did you know that?
After purchasing the vineyard, which was mainly planted with red grapes, rows of white grapes were discovered which gave birth to the Clef de Saint Thomas white wine.
